Monumento in movimento. Inquietudini del secolo breve
Da qualche anno la monumentalistica registra un’attenzione crescente - sia di pubblico che di critica - che, se da un lato ne sconfessa quell’ «invisibilità» cui la relegò Robert Musil un secolo fa, dall’altro sollecita nuovi approcci culturali, in equilibrio tra il valore artistico e le istanze sociali del presente. Il contributo ripercorre, per snodi significativi, il contesto multiforme offerto al monumento dal secolo appena trascorso, con l’obiettivo di perimetrarne, attraverso una selezione di artisti e opere, l’occasione generativa e la ricezione, inscindibili dal contesto che ne alimenta gli assunti e dalla cultura di chi lo fruisce.
Monument in motion. Concerns of the short century
Over the last few years, monumentalism has been attracting increasing attention - both from the public and from critics - which, on the one hand, disavows the «invisibility» to which Robert Musil relegated it a century ago, and, on the other, solicits new cultural approaches, balanced between artistic value and the social demands of the present. The text retraces, through significant junctures, the multifaceted context offered to the monument by the century that has just passed, with the aim of perimeter, through a selection of artists and works, its generative occasion and reception, inseparable from the context that feeds its assumptions and the culture of those who use it.
